Why No $250 Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010?

Listen tax payer (not verified ) asshole do you understand what the word disabled or senior citizen means. Most of us worked for many years and paid for our social security so this is not a situation that we are lazy and don't want to get a job dummy. Don' worry scum bag you"ll get there. How Nice that Congress voted to give bailout monies to all those Corporations and the like, but the Senior Citizens and Disabled was not considered worthy for economic help. They determined we do not need the 2010 Stimulus Check and will just have to make do without it. Well, we need to get the names of those who voted against it and VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE. They don't have to worry about money and benefits for their life time so they don't care about the "little people". Not their problem! As a Senior Citizen I have to make due on a very small SS monthly income which doesn't even cover the increase in the cost of living and Medical Care. Because of the Government, Big Corporations and Banks, we Seniors and Disabled should suffer the most??? They need to get their hands out of the money bucket and save some for us! There is a lot of greed going on everywhere but that's no excuse to letting it continue at our expense. There needs to be a huge cleanup in Government.

So I dont have to repeat everything that everyone else has already said...I 2nd each and every comment made here. And I 3rd & 4th it too. It's a sad sad country if you are old or disabled.

On top of that what about the home remodifacation. My disabled Mother cant even get that to save her home b/c my Father passed away 2yrs ago & although her name is on the deed it's not on the mortage...Now on top of no dentist, higher groceries, etc...she may loose the house that they have worked & saved for for yrs.

First off, those of us who scrape on disability DON"T get a cost of living increase because they keep telling us how 'cheap' everything is now, when seniors and disabled people know that in fact, you get very little food for your months 'allowance to live'. Now, to top it off, those PIGS in Congress, who have their fat salaries, big houses and RAPE AMERICANS WALLETS with useless spending and senseless budgeting are saying, "Okay, everyone else can have their STIMULUS CHECKS (even those well off who don't need it) and as for the poor, disabled and elderly, forget it. Their not giving anything back to society, why should we give THEM anything?"

Because, some of those "not giving anything back" served in the military, others saved lives, and others worked to make other peoples lives easier! Because the whole reason a police officer is disabled is he took a bullet while serving to protect, and now scrapes to get by - and isn't worth $250.00.

Not only am I disabled but I have multiple food allergies! My diet is so expensive because I can't eat anything common or simple! I use the stimulus check to stock up on foods. I only eat about 400 calories a day! I really think that all the government officials should have to live as we do for one whole month! No extras! Freeze their bank accounts and only give them the average amount of social security payments that most of us get. Out of that they have to pay rent, which is typically more than 1/2 the check, plus transportation cost and food. Just to make them really feel the pain of it, make them eat a special diet...they all have to pretend they have celiac disease and are allergic to dairy and eggs! How easy is it now?
Also, my payments got reduced by $5/month this year! If the cost of living hasn't changed, why am I getting less? I know $5 doesn't sound like a lot but for someone in my position, that could be a day or two's worth of food or a copay on medication! Speaking of which, why do we have medical expenses? Just another way to screw us over and make sure we're not able to have anything! On second thought, I don't think a month is long enough...they should have to live like us for a year! How would you like to vote now???

No COLA for us seniors/disabled in 2010. The senate voted it down. Hardly fair when the working people got their big tax cuts this year but guess we are again left out. Not only was one attempt to get it thru rejected but another attempt also rejected by a vote of 50-47.

We poor people on Social Security are ruled by the wealthy people in Congress and we are their slaves. It is time to do away with the form of government we have so none in Congress can get kick backs from companies to make them more wealthy. They should live on a salary and nothing else. It is time for a revolution against our corrupt government.

I think the people that did not agree to this bill is haeartless bastards. Because every time you go to the grocery store, the things you and the government says we need to eat is so expensive you can't afford. So as a American what do we do. I am disable & have been so for over ten years. Like others commenting on this page, I never imagined to be in this situation. It was not something I wanted. It was not something I asked for. I get $847 per month of SSD and even though I am fortunate enough to live in Dept. of Agriculture Rural Housing, I still have to get help from my octogenarian mother for car insurance, maintenance, & repairs. The community is small and the local supermarket is very expensive; much more than if I lived in a larger town but this was the only available subsidized apartment I could find in the entire state of Florida in 2008 so that I could try to support myself & live on my social security. Last year when I received the Stimulus check, I only kept $50.00 for myself and gave the rest to my mother to payback some of everything she has done for me.
I don't know about you, but I have only experienced increases in the cost of almost everything this year; gas, food, clothing, medicines (increased copays & additional prescriptions have increased my drug costs about $35 per month which is $420 per year) - I sure could use more money.
It was great that Congress voted for no salary increase for themselves this year, but with most of them being very wealthy before they get their gov't salary, it wasn't that much of a hardship for them, was it?
I identified with the young disabled man that was planning to have dental work done with this years stimulus check. Since I became disabled I have not been able to afford to go to the dentist on my own. Once again, my mother has pitched in, but I haven't gone unless it was an emergency situation.
I worked and paid into social security but I do not have any other retirement to look forward to because of my disability coming before I was vested. I raised three children who are very responsible and productive young adults and I'm sure eventually they will take care of me if necessary, but there are many disabled people who have no one to turn to. They just want to be able to survive with some dignityl. No one ever grew up aspiring to be disabled or to be a homeless person or to receive charity. But face it, they only most only have government programs and charity groups to see to their future.
I will be writing to my Senators and Congressman to give my two cents worth. Don't know if it will even be worth two cents. It has unfortunately not been my experience that our elected officials care about anyones opinion other than their own except at election time. I am also coming to the belief that there should be term limits for those elected officials. There are term limits for the President, why not for the Senate & Congress?

My life dream was to be a Police Officer to try and help people. I was a Correctional Officer for about 4 years about to make the transition into being a Police Officer. I had a wife of 5 years 2 kids and everything was great. Now I feel like these people in Congress thinks it was a joy to have a seizure while driving crashing my vehicle and totally destroying three discs in my back. Yeah I guess they think I wanted to destroy my life dream to get a measly $1,106 a month for a Family of 5 .

Now I get to sit here and gripe like everybody else because I can't do any physical labor at all. I can't afford to go to the dentist to get my teeth fixed because Medicare won't pay for it and the pain pills are taking a toll on my Dental health. Since gas is again near $3 a gallon I can clearly see why the COLA raise was done away with, I mean they are so smart they predicted the Cost of Living would be lower. I was hoping to get my teeth fixed with the $250 check, something most people take for granted is dental visits. I am 31 now and have been in this situation since 26 so I guess it is normal for a 31 year old to start having teeth break apart.

One reason OUR Country is in such bad shape because all these Banks would rather their foreclosed Homes to rot than take a chance on people like me on Disability. Real Estate is the only thing in this Country that is cheaper now. Exactly why Banks won't loan money, they would rather wait until Homes skyrocket so they can pad their pockets too, problem with that is if no one is lending, no one is buying. Keep holding on to those Deeds. These places will eventually fall down, or maybe sell them all to the Chinese. I mean they pretty much own everything else in this great Country that Politicians are trying their best to destroy, just to make more money for themselves.

I have been SARCASTIC through most of this reply, but now I am going to be serious. It does not matter if you are for Republicans or Democrats, Congress is corrupt. Even the one's who may be decent people still let the corruption go on. My Family has never been on a real Vacation. Congress should think about that before they vote on anything, but it does not matter the votes are known before they are even cast on most issues voted on. All Congress should resign or be forced to by all the angry people on here. Then we should elect people that doesn't even know what the word Politics mean. WHY ONLY $250?
In 2009 Seniors & Disabled got only $300 per person when working people got $400 per person.
We are always being short changed & falling further behind. It is not a persons fault that life dealt you poor health and pain and have to live from surgery to surgery & from shot to shot. Believe me, I would rather be able to go back to work doing what I loved then to wake up in pain every day & spend half my life at doctors offices or the Pharmacy!

This would be a good time to give $400 per person so we can get back some of the shortfall at once. It does not cost the government more $ to process these payments. It only costs them more $ if they keep doing it piece meal & in dribs & drabs of small amounts. JUST MAKE A DECENT PAYMENT ONCE IN 2010!!!.

What happened to "YES WE CAN"?

Congress needs to RE-VOTE!!!. Recently several companies have paid back the $ that the government gave them for a bailout - some paid it early. Wasn't there supposed to be interest on those loans too? The Government made $. Use that interest to offset the $250 for at least Disables people!!! Hey people - DO THE MATH

They should definitely give the $250 to single Disabled people - those who can't work !!! - especially if they are under 62 ( these people probably still have mortgages)! Then to single Seniors. Married seniors collect 2 SS incomes (& usually have already paid off their mortgages). Also seniors who are in good health have the capacity to earn more money & to part time work. Disabled people are the worst case senario.

I think it still can come later this year (2010). It has been put in two bills from what I have read. One it is in a new jobs bill, the other it is in the budget bill. I wouldn't count on it. However, they need to increase what people get per month on SSI and in some cases SS, SSD, & SSS.

dont give up hope just yet on the stimulus. It's not a guaranteed thing, but someone found a way to pigg-back it onto another bill that is up to be voted on, and not denied. When it will be done however, is the question. They have had it, but had to do their little "vacation" first. As much as I do not like Obama, I have to say, at least this is something he thinks and believes we need, and wants to see us have it, it's those other idiots that are standing in the way. All I can say, is I hope they remember this when re-election time comes around...first one that should go... Judd Gregg !! He's the main cause for all of this !! Also, check into your own reps in your states, and see how they voted on the matter...hope they all enjoy their seats in office now, because I dont think they are going to get a repeat performance !

there are way to many greedy politions I agree im disabled and also have to live on limited income.one of my issuies will be to try to get the state to start helping those on SSI.Californa pays those on SSI and SSD exter imcome,the only downside with what thay do is thay cut out food stamps.

im will of course try to not let that happen.the state of IN also needs better health Care.I will fight to make sure we all get fair health care,yes the Healthcare bill passed but im sure it will fail becouse it has to many flaws.

I alos intend to fight to allow more funding for school and to stop the cuts to our childrens education.I think it is unfair that teachers and students must suffer becouse the state wants to have its own raise and not allow those teachers and students to live better.

Regarding crime,there is just way to much crime.I will fight for harsher punishment on drugs,gangs and most important to me is crimes that involve children and women.I beleve that these sex offenders shouldnt be allowed a small sentence and then get out.the regester system only works if thay regester.

this is my oppion but i beleave if your convicted of a sex crime you should get life not get sentence to 5 or 10 years and be out in 3 to 7. we should also reqire all criminals to serve there full sentence not just 1/3 of it.

I have been disabled for almost 10 years now and I think it is so stupied that we have to live on 600 a mounth i honestly would love to see them try to live on that much.not to mention the cost of food gose up but thay doint count that in the Cost of living alloance how stupied is that.I think we need to just impeach these greedy politions and get them out of office.there is no sence in us having to suffer well thay get rich.

busted, disgusted, but can be trusted. our republicans and democrats are living like fat rats and decide since alot of us have been in the workforce, that we are not worthy of a raise or a stimulus of 250.00. all the stimulus payments to large corporations (like bank of america) can get richer. government beat down the little man and uplift the g'ment reps. how can that few people control spending. americans needs to standup and rep0 their homes, cars, vacations homes, affairs outside of marriage is simply ok. if these people represent america than they need to go back and look at our forefathers, they probably would not even know what u where talking about. honesty is not in their vocabulary, greedy is. i know when other countries have bad things happening, destruction of homes, lives, and i believe in helping your fellow man, but about people in our country in need of medicines to help keep them alive, housing for families with little resources. i have been homeless only because of being with people with hate in their heart or trying to get back at u at something for which they have an obligation to punish u because they can. i have never seen so many cruel people in this world. dog eat, dog world. anyway back to subject of raises for ssa recipents and our 250.00 bonus. once again someone direct me to the right person, place, or thing to bring back what the older retired and disabled need to just get by. united we stand, divided we fall. amen i can get another amen!!!!!!

I'm a disabled young person on SSI. I only had a year and a half in the work force, and haven't been able to pay practically anything into SS. Currently, I'm forced to in a halfway house with 7 other people, and it's by a stroke of luck I have enough food come the last week of the month. 250$ to me is the difference between living in a situation I can't stand that I honestly think is giving me heart troubles due to stressors, and being an independent person in a place of my own.

Sometimes I feel I just won't make it... less than 700$ a month for the rest of my life is honestly a terrifying thought!

I find it ridiculous how much money these people make. They themselves know that as much as they make today will insure them a healthy life on SS in the future, but what about us disabled young persons who didn't have a chance to sock anything away in SS before their disability?

Granted, I am grateful for what I have, and through diligence and grace am I able to survive on 22$ a day. I just remind myself that my expectations cannot rule my life. I should not feel at all as though I expect anything from anybody, and that every gift I am given is a miracle for which to be thankful for.

I can only hope that the next time this is placed in front of those people hopefully next year, someone will mention to them of the young people on disability making a 4 figure income.

It's amazing that our congress has better insurance, retirement benefits, and guaranteed salary increases than most americans, which brings to the point how can they represent the "common folk" when they don't have any concept of what we "common folk" have to deal with. Their use of the inflation index to adjust S.S. benefits does not consider most of the everyday expenses we seniors deal with. It's too bad their raises are not tied to inflation or to their performance in representing the american people. They hide behind the law when it's convenient.

I see Congress gave themselves a raise....but did NOT give us, the seniors on Social Security, the $250 stimulus that was promised.................does that seem fair to YOU????????????? NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I worked for many years, raised a family, did all the things that had to be done. Im now 63 and have health problems, and collect ssi and ssd. I have a daughter and an ex husband who are staunch republicans and believe we should recieve no help, I try to get to food banks and take advantage of programs but it just isent doing it, they of course live in 180 thousand dollar homes and dont ever miss a meal when her own mother lives in a small apartment, many months going without enough to eat. They are both very political and religious but i have never seen them lend a helping hand to anyone in need. I believe this way of thinking is very common within that party. Its a shame, I see people older then myself, good people living in conditions that are terrible. I just sold my bed to make ends meet, and dont have a kitchen table, and this is normal for we, that are on a fixed income, if i look at another noodle i will scream. The point im trying to make is that people with thouse beliefs are very greedy, but dont see themselves that way, i see it in my own family, its a shame. Id like to live a easier life now that im older, and have taken care of my family, but its not going to happen. That 250 dollar check would have realy been a help, it just says alot about our society.

yes I am disabled but I did work for 31 years before and I paid taxes now through no fault of my own I'am not retitled to a cost of living increase or a stimulus but it was okay for the goverment to bail out the banks and the car dealership so the economy would look good by late august so the government couldn't give the ss or disabled raises when they knew they were going bale out the banks and car companies so the rich can keep getting richer and the heck with the disabled and the ss people because we are the people and not the goverment who are for politics of the time
