Social Security Economic Stimulus: Will You Get $250?

Monetary help is coming from Social Security!

Millions of Americans are set to receive a $250 payment from the administration. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which was signed into law by President Barack Obama, is offering the benefit.

Those who get their benefits by direct deposit will get their free money transferred electronically, and for others it will be by paper check delivered via mail. Recipients with a Direct Express debit card will get their payments via the card itself.

Most of the payments will be completed until the end of May. Contact the SS Administration Office only after June 4 if you didn’t get a payment till then.

Who Benefits from Obama’s Stimulus?

Anybody who receives both SSI or Social Security benefits will receive a single payment of $250.

Beneficiaries of Department of Veterans Affairs and Railroad Retirement benefits will receive a single time payment according to the stimulus bill.

Note: Even if a person qualifies for benefits in more than one category then also the person will be paid only once.

I fall under the government pension offset system. Will I receive the full $250, or will there be some sort of percentage deduction. When I receive a COLA, Social Security deducts whatever my COLA allowance is from my SS benefits. I lose $990 in SS benefits under this sytem. Thanks Mr. Reagan.

Why is this not talked about in the news. No, 250 dollars is not alot of money to some people but to others it may mean having the money to pay for a prescription or to buy food. Most of us on SS are very angry about this huge 2009 Recovery act passed by congress and do not understand why some of this money was not given to the tax payers, after all it is our money,so at least this is something tangible for those of us over 62 or on disability even though it is a drop in the bucket concidering the size of this so called stimulas package.

I’m not the smarts person in all but I have worked all my adult years and payed taxes in to SS and SSI I’m on SS and SSI now, so I believe I’m just as good as any one else, I’m tired of hearing about the Stimulus Rebate is wrong some of us earned it, I know there are people out there taking advantage of the sistom but what can you do, I believe we all need to work together to get this country back in SHAPE!

You know ppl who make the State minimun don’t have alot of money.I see us sending billions over sees and right here in the USA ppl are barely scraping by.It seems like the ppl in the White House should recieve my checks for aa year and I recieve there checks. You think it might make a difference? It’s really hard to make it on 546. a month and try to buy food and rent.electric,water.The cost of everything has gone up except our checks.I thank those ppl who decided to give us this check. After the check is gone I still recieve the same thing as the month before. It would be nice if we could have the 250. every month. It might make my stomach STOP GROWLING!!! God Bless

I think the stimilus check works as if you don’t get a tax refund at least this makes up for it. In addition I receive SSDI benefits which ‘am greatful for as having a disability shouldn’t be a crime nor should it be treated like it is. My belief is it was hard to accept & ask for help but, thank god help is out there otherwise I hate to think where I would be right now…..Yours Truly….David Masters

How does the working people raise the deficiet, we are just getting the few dollars that we earn and fica does not take be deal. You have to have your job back to get it, and what about the people thatare only part time workers and cannot draw an unemplo. check, what about them and they are laid off?
They are out in the cold! we the people all off us, deserve more than what we are getting we work hard for what little we get.
The it is taken away, we are losing a losing battle at this point. What happened to the $1000. dollar stimulis that he promised in his campaigne. when we were getting ripped at the gas pumps. we the people help pay ss taxes and we deserve more than the extra money THAT WE EARN ourself. not given
I do not see this as a stimulus. it is our money in the first place we work for it.
I can not believe he is keeping us in bad shape we need help, jobs, money, homeless. It is always nice to see someone that has money to keep the ones that do not have money, insurance, savings, and a home anymore still left in the cold.
Just think of all the people who get ssi,ssa.etc.
Just think of the ones who are working the system. Just think of the ones who need ss and are often denied, while the ones that are frauds rec, you know any. I do

i was just wondering i am 17 years old and my ssi is paid to a representative payee will i still receive the 250 dollar payment?

  10. marsha on June 17th, 2009 3:40 pm

    Angelique,

No, you will not get the $250 your representative will get the check (or by now should have already gotten it) He/she has to use that money as they see fit to take care of you.

I am a retired public school teacher and my retirement system did not pay social security. Why should I be denied the $250? I am on a pension like many others. Also I voted for and have up to now supported Obama.I am now having second thoughts about my support.

I’m on social security and have a house payment that takes all of my check. I do get a pension but have 300.00 comes out for medical , leaves me with 480′00 to live on. lights, cable, telep. i’m left with not much for food. I’ve worked almost all my live and this is what i get. I think we should get about 600. oo. thank you

  13. Chrissy on October 21st, 2009 12:51 pm

Makes no sense to give it to everyone just because they are 62? Most people are getting more money then they ever put in, yet they complain that they are entitled to more! For what – because they waisted all their earnings on needless junk all their lives, now complain they can’t buy food. Should have planned for your retirement.

  14. Donn on October 21st, 2009 1:05 pm

Crazy that people that who are worth millions, are getting $250 just because they are old enough to be on ss.

  15. chrissy on October 21st, 2009 1:22 pm

Seems no one is grateful for getting $250!

It seems that someone who is on disability and cant make it doesnt need to have a car that costs 450 dollars a month… And asking for advice on how to get the government to pay for it. If your bills are really what you say and your check is only 600 then you are getting money from some place and probably working for it, and if you can be working then you shouldnt be on disability, those of us who actualy need it dont drive 450 dollar a month cars! We dont work and just collect some government money on the side which you must be doing if your truck hasnt been reposesed. 450 dollar a month car payment! and they let you stay on SSI it makes me sick

Leave or Social Security alone. You need money make the foreigners pay TAXES as they dont If you open a gas station or convientent store or simular. You stay in our country for 5 years with out paying a dime in taxes. Then go back to your country and another relative comes to continue running your business. The cycle goes on and on!!! So here is alot of found money for the government. But unless congress and the president doesnt realize that this is one of our problems then things will never change. Let us have our money cause gas is still going up in price food hasnt gone down. God only knows medication hasnt changed at all. I wish the government had to try to live off of this money. They would be asking for alot more. Cause with in the week of the check coming the money is gone and waiting for next month to roll around. PLEASE WAKE UP CONGRESS!!! LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE MR. PRESIDENT

I hope some day you dont need it. We live on disability didnt want to live like this but accidents happen and people loose what they worked so hard for to find out that they need this money to survive. I hope you never have to but you might someday. Then tell me your not intited to what you paid into for many years. I feel sorry for people like you. You need to walk in our shoes for a while I know you would be crying the loudest…..

Believe you have to consider all aspects in the current economic climate – personally do no think we have seen the full extent of the recesssion, so would be cautious in considering.
