Free $250 Stimulus Check For Social Security Recipients Who Don’t Work

There’s something for everyone in Barack Obama’s stimulus package, including a free social security bonus for SS recipients who don’t work. As they don’t work, they don’t qualify for tax credits, so they would otherwise feel left out of the free money bonanza. However, Barack Obama made sure that Social Security recipients who don’t work will receive a one-time $250 check so they too can benefit from the stimulus and help revive the economy by spending more money.

When will you get your stimulus check?

The stimulus bill instructs the Treasury to send the check “as soon as possible”. In other words, the check is probably in the mail, and if not, it will be soon. Let us know in the comments section as soon as you received anything.

P.S. What if you’re are a retired government employee and don’t receive Social Security benefits (e.g. if you live in Massachusetts)? You will still get the $250 check. Thank Sen. John F. Kerry and Rep. Richard Neal for it as they promoted this provision.

I recieve SSI, and my daughter recieves a small social security check because her father is recieving social security disability. my question is, will either myself or my minor daughter recieve a stimulus check, and if so, what amount? I am thankful to be recieving the benefits we already get, but a stimulus check in any amount would be a life saver in this tough economy. Thanks in advance for your help…Joanna

  12. Annie Dalton on February 25th, 2009 2:29 pm

I depend on SS for my primary income, I do work 20 hours per week, would I be better off to not work at all? I can’t make that decision based on money, I work in a long term facility and feel that I am making a contribution to the residents by just being there. I suppose I will just have to miss the $250 but feel good about it in my heart.

I RECEIVE S.S. AND S.S.I. I ALSO WORKED A LITTLE LAST YEAR AND RECIEVE A FEDERAL INCOME TAX. I’M NOT WORKING AT THIS POINT, SO WILL I RECECIVE A $250.00 STIMULUS CHECK?

  19. Richard Bray on February 26th, 2009 12:49 pm

To C. Klaine: I, like you, do not ordinarily file a tax return. In 2008 we had to in order to receive the 2008 stimulus check. This year, 2009, the IRS evidently decided that to repeat this requirment would involve too much paper work and according to the website, ss.com, we will have to do nothing except receive the stimulus money, whether by way of direct deposit or in the mail. Just make sure that the IRS has your “required” direct deposit or mailing information on file.

If you or anyone else need any further information or help, feel free to email me at hzleeyes@bellsouth.net.

Have a wonderful day and don’t spend the money all in one place.

  20. Fran C on February 26th, 2009 4:53 pm

    some answers:

If your SSI check is direct deposited, your stimulus check will be also. However you receive your SS or SSI income, that is how you will receive the stimulus check.

#2– If you work part time and file an income tax return and are due a refund and a $400 tax credit from the stimulus, the $250 for your SS portion is DEDUCTED from what you will receive back from your income tax filing. I.E, if you work part time, and are due a refund, you will receive your full refund AND your $250 stimulus check. The $400 individual credit which you can claim on a tax return after 4/1 (need to verify the date) would then be only a $150 tax credit as you received the $250 stimulus check. MAKE SURE the tax credit is claimed when filing your income tax.

In answer to the person who is 78, not working does not receive SS or SSDI you CAN NOT claim the $$250 stimulus check. The provision is only for those on SSI, SSI, Veterans benefits.

Unlike last year, where you had to file a return to receive the stimulus money, this year it will be sent to you automatically. While they will begin going out in February, as like last year it will take a couple of months for everyone to receive their money, hence the reason they are saying that all checks will not be out before May.
I believe it goes by the last 4 digits of your Social Security number.

  21. Sandra S. Belsley on February 27th, 2009 6:46 am

I have been receiving a ss check for 5 months. Out of that 5 months I have been working for 4 months having just retired as of January 31st on paper, however, my last day “working” was January 23, 2009. Do I qualify for the stimulus check since I am now retired/not working but only been “not working” for a short amount of time?

    Thanks.

    S. Belsley

  22. Sandra S. Belsley on February 27th, 2009 6:48 am

How long do have to be “not working” to receive the stimulus check. I have been “not working” for one month.

  23. Marino Scisci on February 27th, 2009 2:30 pm

I’m retired from the state of NY and retired with SSecurity. My wife also works subbing as teacher and not retired. Am I going to receive the $250 stimulus and my wife receive her $400 stimulus?.

  24. Steve Morgan on February 27th, 2009 4:08 pm

Thank you Sen. John F. Kerry and Rep. Richard Neal for promoting this provision. Of Course a very special thank you to President Barack Obama and everyone in Congress who voted for this stimulus package.

For those who are now concerned about the deficit, I would like to ask this question: Where were you and your concerns during the corrupt, criminal Bush Administration?

This illegal and immoral war (especially in Iraq) was planned and premeditated for years. Those of us who have served in the military were aware of this intended invation as early as 1April1978. The exercises to prepare for it were called “Brave Shield” and “Brave Storm”. There were conducted every spring in the Mojave Desert near Edwards AFB, CA and lots of officers, even those from foreign allies who wee part of the training exercise and who read the Operations plan were not only well aware of this contingency plan; but outraged about it as well.
The only people who were kept ignorant of it was the American Body Politic by the controlled media that we unfortunately had and still have.

God Bless President Barack Obama, Senator Kerry, Representative Neal and everyone else who is genuinely and sincerely endeavoring to restore America to a just, free, and lawful Repbulic!

Howard, not all of want to be on social security. I worked as a registered nurse for 25 yrs until I became disabled. Do you really think I want to accept 1/4 of my pay? Also,I still pay taxes on my ssd since my husband works 2 jobs. Yes, many people are out to get whatever they can, but if I was able to work, I would. Note that I receive ssd which means my ncome is based on MY WORK story-not free money.

  31. Willie on March 3rd, 2009 11:09 am

Is it a proven fact we will be getting the money? I get social security disability, so I guess I will get the $250.00. My question is, what about my three children and wife will they get a check? I’m not trying to be greedy, but why not. They get it only because I am disabled. $250.00 sounds good, but $1000.00 sounds even much better.

I am waiting to hear something that is for sure. I know one thing sure “we the american people” need help. We don’t have private jets, new cars, or big bonuses to look forward too, only hard times to get worse before they get better. Yes, $250.00 would be a blessing and can be spent in the blink of an eye to make life a little easier for a very short time. I don’t understand all the bailouts for big businesses. The world is in this place and time because many thought greed was the best for them. Well guess what took a slow learner to figure out that wasn’t true. Please send the check soon. And before anymore is spent on foolishness send us more.

This is pitiful … making us beg for 250 dollars …… I wish they would try and live on our monthly checks and that once in a lifetime 250 dollar favor they are giving us ….. They should give each one of us 2,500 dollars….That would set me and many of my friends up perfect ……. WALL STREET gets TRILLIONS … THE BANKS get TRILLIONS … and we all get 250 bucks …… what a government ……

  52. americanme on March 12th, 2009 12:04 am

Reading everyones comments is very interesting. I too am on SS Disability like everyone and while I do appreciate ANY money, I can also see why some are bitter sounding. WE, the people, get crumbs while the billionaire Wall Street ripoffs and bigtime bankers get billions. Is not something wrong with this picture? After all they are the ones that got us into this mess. And if anyone in here thinks our Congress is going to do anything about the situation..you better check yourself. They too are only looking out for number one. Until greed is stopped in this country the USA will continue toward the history books right beside the Roman Empire under the Failed Empires section.

I am on disability, but I will not qualify for Medicare for two years. I have a large spend-down to get Medicaid. I learned yesterday that my spend-down is going up $29.00 a month in May. That equals $232 for the rest of the year. So much for that $250 stimulus check. The government of ours is sitting nice with their nice income and free medical care aren’t they?

I am thankful for everything I receive. People would receive more if they were not so ungrateful. They want to receive as much as businesses get there are millioms of us getting a stimulus check. There are not that many businesses getting the bailout. The way a lot of the people who are sounding off, to me they think like the employees of a business should make as much as the CEO or President of the business. You have only one CEO and one President but could have thousands of employees. They need to learn to sit down, shut up and think.

I am confused about these terms,SS,SSI and SSDI.
I filed for social security based on medical and mental disorders, it was my understanding that I was getting both SSI and SSDI. I recieved a check on the first and third of the month. That changed in a few months and now I only get a check on the third of the month for $1,075.00, I think thats SSDI and it is direct deposit. Will I get the check for $250.00 and will it be direct deposit. Can you tell me when I will be getting that check, will it be like last year by the last four social security numbers. I am confused and lost with this stimulus program please help me with these questions.

I will be glad to get the $250., however, I do not understand why when we get a small increase in our social security checks, they take it away somewhere else, like our already too small food stamp money of $30. a month. I got an increase of $37. this year and they took away $17. of my food stamp money, even though groceries have increased on every single item in the store more than that amount. JAD

In response to Howard Barnes’ comment: I will gladly take the money. Both of my daughters draw SSI benifits due to the recent death of their mother. My daughters deserve this money and I intend to let them spend it. It was the laws of THIS country that allowed them to be kidnapped and THE LAWS of this country did nothing to protect them nor to help me get them back. Howard, I have to laugh at your comments. Why are you so mad at us? You show how ignorant you are. Most of us have worked and paid in to SS for far more years than you ever will. We worked, bought houses, raised kids, paid bills and retired from our jobs after 40 or so years. We served in Vietnam and had family in WWII and now son’s and grandsons in Iraq, and yet, you think you have some right to tell us we haven’t done our part.

Well Howard, what have you done? You know to serve this fine country you live in? Hell, maybe if you started doing your part you could take over the country. You seem to think of yourself as well learned. How many years have you worked and served your country Howard?

  82. cduval on March 30th, 2009 11:57 am

for all people asking when or if they are going to get a check you can call social security at 800-772-1213 and press 1 when prompted for information about the american recovery and reinvestment act. you will hear a recording with information of the payment. you do not have to wait to speak to a person.

it basically says, how you will get your check, when you will get your check and who will get the check.

how-you will get the check the same way you get your regular ssi or ss payments it will come sepreately from your monthly payment…you do not have to do anything to get it.

when-checks will be distributed throughout the month of may. (it does not say this, but I have heard the issue them in order of the last 4 digits of your social security number. for example, if your ss number ends in 1111, you will prbably get your check towards the beginning of may, and ig=f yo9u ss number ends closer to 9999 you will probably get it towards the end of may and 5555 would be in the middle of the month)

who- it says on the recording that “eople recieving SSI”and “social security benificiaries” will get the $250 stimulus payment.

I hope this answers some of your questions

could you please tell me if the 250.00 check will come in the mail or being direct deposit like my social security check thanks so much

  87. Kathy Penles on April 4th, 2009 1:09 pm

I am 58 years old and retired from PA state government. I receive a monthly pension check with federal income taxes deducted each month. I am not old enough for social security. Will my federal tax withholding decrease? Will I get anything from this stimulus? One more thing — my yearly pension is below $30,000 so I can hardly be considered wealthy.

If you are angry now how much madder will you be to learn that ILLEGAL ALIENS are getting this money as they continue to steal our names, our identitys, and our SS#. Then they steal our jobs, benefits (local, state, and federal), and have REPRESENTATION/ACCESS to Congress that you will NEVER have (i.e. LaRaza, Code Pink, ACORN, etc.). COngress then gives these EXTREMIST Groups HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS (from us!} and then “magically” these same Politicans get donations from ACORN, LARAZA (it is a “circle os shame”).
Now, ACORN (in spite of FIFTEEN INVESTIGATIONS about VOTER FRAUD) is a “consultant” to the US Census. That is like the TERRORISTS being a “consultant” to your family’s safety (i.e. it is so UNHEALTHY, rife with conflicts, that only bad things can/will come of it).
Lastly, OBAMA will give FULL CITIZENSHIP to every Illegal just before the 2012 Election so that the “new Citizens” (who have IMMUNITY for all of their ILLEGAL ACTIONS over a period of years) can bring their family members over so now we are going to have 35-70 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS CITIZENS. Welcome to the Obama Presidency.

I have mixed emotions about this check, I am happy and grateful on the one hand because my cat needs surgery on his teeth, and this is going to help him immensely. What makes me a little discouraged is that I recieve 648.00 a month for social security disability, and my rent is 455.00 a month. And I get frustrated to know others are even in more dire situations then this, and they make it so hard to get on section 8, I called and they told me to try back in a year…hello?

I am a veteran of the United States Army. I served my country with pride and dignity. I have read remarks from people all over the country. I feel that we as Americans have lost our since of worthiness. What happen to the God Speed people that stood strong and brave. One for all and all for one. I was not a strong supporter of George Bush the first or second one but I still respected them because they held the title of Commander in Chief. Some of you have forgotten why Obama was even elected in this short period of time. It was due to the American People that believe and wanted a change. The old mule has passed on let him rest and let God be his judge. I have a son that is now serving this great country of ours. Please don’t destroy the things I have tried to teach him. Lets be thankful for the money if we receive it and lets be happy for others if we don’t. I served in Desert Shield to Storm and will do it again even with the injuries I have. I am a shame of the comments some of you make concerning hard working American people. We need to stop seeing in Black and White and see the Red the White and the Blue. I would like to salute Obama and what he is trying to do for this country. If you hate things so bad just go live in another country like North Korea were someone can take and take and never give you anything. Come on people we are better than this. Love all until my death.

  106. Edith House on April 21st, 2009 10:58 pm

So if a person is working and drawing SS they will not receive the $250? Thats a kick for those that try to make a living. Even those that are paying SS out of their income when they are working only gets $10 or $15 dollar raise a year when thousands are paid into SS.

  107. Sharon on April 23rd, 2009 3:12 pm

If you live in CALIFORNIA, you might as well kiss it goodbye. If you are on social security and got a raise January 2009, they are taking it back May 1st. I would have rather had my raise for the remainder of this year because it equaled $296. So much for the $250 stimulus…no such thing if you live in CA.

  108. Linda in nc on April 24th, 2009 7:19 pm

just like everyone else if your income is above a certain level. Can someone let me know.

  112. E Lee on April 26th, 2009 10:38 pm

My, My, Some people are out for all they can get. Pardon Me, but why should a chile get a soc.sec.steim. check. They have never worked a day in their lives and have parents who should be supporting them. That is why the soc. sec. is going broke now. Everybody is standin there weirh ther had out. I’m not tallking about us people that hve worked hard all of their lives and paid in soc. sec., I’m talking about the people that have been dropped into the soc. sec. buket to see what they can get. So many of them have never worked a day in their lives, but they are getting money from the system. That is part if what is wrong with America now. Lets go back to the John F Kennedy days, ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU, BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY. AMEN. I am not for giving any more money away, I am sure we can all use it, but one day our children and grandchildren will have to pay back this large debt that our country is under. I think that we should get rid of about 3/4 of the people in Washington now and cut the salary in half of the ones that are left there. Everytime you turn around Congress is GIVING THEIRSELVES A RAISE. Why can,t we vote on how much money they should have? If they don’t like it, they should stay home and not be a polition.

We could just go back to the Davie Crockett days, he was always traveling to Washington, DC. to help them out. Did he get paid anything? Don,t get me wrong, I think that all of us that are retired and on real Sos. Sec. should get what we deserve, but all of those other people that have jumped on the Sos. sec. band wagon, should put more time into trying to get themselves a rear job and quit trying to get something free.

You probably won,t print this but at least I fell that it needs to be said and thought about..By the way, I am a 71 year old widow, retired after working 31 years with the same company. I have always worked and supported my children and never had a FREE HAND OUT, OR WANTED ONE. I could go on all night but won,t. Thanks

E Lee no my son has never worked and may never work because he is autistic. Were any of your children disabled? I found your remarks insulting considering you don’t know what the situation is for some of these children and their families. Children receive SSI because they are DISABLED not because they or their parents are trying to cheat the government in some way.

Children under the age of 18 (19 if they are still in high school) will NOT receive a check. Go to http://www.socialsecurity.gov they have a question and answer page. I personally think this whole thing is a joke. $250????? How is this going to boost the economy? If the American people got what the banks and car companies are getting we would all be better off!! Nothing yet!!!. I just hope that Gov. Schwarzenegger don’t get his hands on it like he did on my 5.8 ssi increase. I live on ssi disability supplemental in calif and he used it to balance his budget.

  133. Jeff on May 6th, 2009 10:51 am

Yea. it is a bit confusing, children under 18 (or 19 if in school) who receive disability benefits (SSDI) will not get a check, however, adult children who are getting social security off of the parent’s record WILL get a check.

Also, the following is taken directly from the FAQ on the ssa.gov website:

    Quote
“Are children who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits eligible for the one-time economic recovery payment?

    Answer

Yes, disabled children receiving SSI are eligible for the one-time payment.”

    End Quote

That question is a copy and paste from the social security website, so as you can see, if you have disabled children who receive SSI (Supplemental Security Income), yes, they WILL also receive a check as well. If they receive regular disability (Social Security Disability Insurance SSDI) then they won’t.

Remember, SSI and SSDI are two different things.

He wears size 14 shoes and I have been trying to help him buy some new ones, but something always happens…car needs tires, unexpected medical bill, high electric bill etc. I think we are all in the same boat. I do work but just live paycheck to paycheck.

  144. LV on May 8th, 2009 5:00 pm

I think that this stimulus check crock is a scam!!! I get SSI benefits to which Child Support Enforcement takes money from that already so then these scumbags also take both stimulus checks as well thanks Obama this really helps me.

  145. The Unhappily Employed on May 8th, 2009 5:55 pm

It seems to me that it just doesn’t pay to actually be employed. The warfare recipients received more on their link card and now the SS recipients are receiving a stimulus check. The people who seem to be getting the short end of the stick, are the people who actually pay taxes. That doesn’t seem fair. I’m struggling to pay bills, living check to check. When I ask for help I’m denied. Why? Because I have a job. Look at all the benefits of being unemployed; a food tab payed for by the government along with free money, free housing and free medical care. But wait, there’s more! You can even get your relative to keep your kids and split the fat government child care check. Heck, seems to me you’re better off UNEMPLOYED !!! My biggest question is, WHY WORK!!!

  146. Dott on May 8th, 2009 6:56 pm

to unhappily employed-you are a dope. Why come onto a site like this to spout hate. Most people I know who are living off of social security or disability would rather be working. Circumstances often beyond their control prevent it. Of course we all “know” someone who is taking advantage of the system, but I guarantee that number is small compared to the sick and disabled. So please like my mom told us as kids (and now tells the great grandkids) if you can’t say anything nice…..

  147. Sarah on May 8th, 2009 10:52 pm

I truly cannot believe the comments of the majority of people on here. People keep complaining about what is wrong with our country and in my opinion it is the people constantly complaining that is what is wrong.

Lee??? Exactly what social security bandwagon are you speaking of? You say, “all the people who haven’t worked a day in their life are getting money”…disability from social security comes from the money one PAYS in during their WORKING YEARS and that is why some people on disability only live on $400-$500 a month. Do you think that is lucky???? Do you truly believe the majority of people CHOSE THIS? If you have been through HALF of what I have been through the last 4 years of my life (After working from age 16-37..sometimes 100 hours weekly)…and then I got sick. Very sick. I now live on disability and my days are long and tough. I receive $990 BASED ON MY EARNINGS THROUGHOUT MY WORKING YEARS. And please trust me…I would give ANYTHING to be able to work again. And I truly believe the majority of people on disability are the same way. That is who is getting this $250. The retired and the disabled. Shame on you Lee. Shame on you.

  148. Deborah on May 8th, 2009 11:07 pm

My mother and nephew receives SSI. My mother received a letter stating that she would receive the $250.00, and she received it yesterday May 7. My nephew did not receive a letter and did not receive the money. He owes child support, so I figure his money was taken for that purpose.

to Howard, you ought to be ashamed of yourself, and as someone else asked, why are you on this site?

  149. Deborah on May 8th, 2009 11:10 pm

    To LV
Its not Obamas fault you owe child support

  150. Deborah on May 8th, 2009 11:16 pm

    To the Unhappily Employed
do you think that people that are not working enjoy being unemployed? do you think we enjoy going to the Public Aid office and beg for assistance. I am a single parent, lost my job 10 months ago. A job I had worked on for 15 years. I go to Public aid, they give me $85-90.00 per month. that doesnt buy very much. My unemployment check is $344.00/bi weekly. My rent is $525.00/month, I pay lights, phone, my daughter needs bus fare. So you had it up and tell me how good I have it!!

I find it so bizarre that some people think because a person gets Social Security that they didn’t work to get it…they paid that money to the government to get it. I work, but my husband is on Social Security and has been for a long time now. We don’t get food stamps, we don’t get medical from the state, nor is Medicare FREE, we don’t get free housing, and we raised our children and had no one to help us, go figure, so the money we received on our taxes for having children was ours. You know what, I don’t condemn anyone on Social Security, and it isn’t all that easy to get it in the first place. It took a couple of years and three tries for them to give my husband Social Security, and I know several others who have had the same problem. As far as being better off unemployed, for many people on Social Security that is very doubtful because not all people get all that much from it. One last thing I want to say because this is what this sight is for anyway, some people have to pay back the $250 Stimulus Check because of their personal situations, so it’s more like a loan until tax season, but I see it as a loan they forced on us. For some it might be a curse. LOL! Below is what Unhappily Unemployed said, and it seems to me people who don’t know anything about Social Security need to look into it before they open their mouth.

“It seems to me that it just doesn’t pay to actually be employed. My biggest question is, WHY WORK!!!”

to Howard Barnes who commented earlier I think your narrow minded thinking is what is wrong with the world and why your probably a republican. My 8 yr old son has Aspbergers syndrome and has a hard time adjusting to everyday life let alone school. I cannot work because I have to care for him and provide the treatment and therapy he needs. His father has been laid off due to the economy and I have two other children. When I was working that little $250 barely made up my performance bonuses or his perhaps 1/4 of his fathers take home pay. Do you really think I would rather sit home and wait for his ssi wich is 1/5 of what our family used to bring home and hope for a measly $250?? You do the math. Someone who has never had to struggle to buy their child new shoes when the old ones are practically falling apart and figure out how to make $150 dollars stretch for groceries for 5 people for almost 2 weeks would say something like that. I hope you NEVER are in my position. I wouldn’t wish this on my WORST enemy, its downright degrading and almost embarrassing.Who would want this kind of life purposely? I want to know when the money is coming so I can be able to purchase new shoes for my children, possibly have enough groceries for once. I mean come on.

Yes, it’s a damn shame that we are in a state where a mere $250 dollars would make a huge difference in our lives because in reality we really do need every single cent…infact we deserve much more. For those wanting to know more about where our monetary system is headed and what we can do about it just take a look at the two FREE Online Movies named “The Zeitgeist” at http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/ We’ve come to a point in our evolution where what the movie suggests is possible. It’s either this or I’m ditching this country and headed to a socialist republic where work is guaranteed to anyone that wants to work. Even if it’s stuffing envelopes since I’m disabled and where healthcare is universal. This country has disgustipated me. I don’t think Obama is enough…or at least for my time. For the youngens, perhaps.

tROB…how are you getting screwed?? We’re the ones getting screwed…the ones who are working to support this so-called stimulus…My apolgies to those of you who are TRULY disabled, this rant isn’t about you or against you…In my job I see hundreds of people who are abusing the system and recieving government aid of all kinds…80% of people recieving benefits shouldn’t be…I’m a paramedic who had to go to school at age 39 and educate myself in order to do the job that I do…and for saving lives my reward is $10.85 per hour, a good portion of that will be taken away in order to fund all the unecessary benefits that you folks feel that you’re entitled to. Because I went to school and educated myself, while helping support a family and pay my child support, you feel you deserve to reap the rewards of my work. What percent of my pay would satisfy you? How much of my hard work do you feel entitled to? How far behind in my bills do I need to get before you say “Okay we’ve milked enough from him and his family”. Maybe I should hurt my back and go on disability, it’s more profitable than working for a living.

  186. Clay Baugh on May 16th, 2009 12:22 pm

to Rene Enriquez…you deserve more?? Why, because you were born? I don’t even know you and you feel that you are entitled to even more of my money than you’re already getting!!! That sense of entitlement is what is bankrupting this country, as well as, a lot of hard working Americans who do actually deserve the money that they work for. You people don’t seem to understand, or you just don’t care, that the government does not produce money. The government get it’s money from us, workers and consumers, in other words, taxes. The more free money you get, the more we have to pay. Yet you deserve more?? Can you give me a good reason why I don’t deserve what I work for? Can you tell me why my family has to sacrifice things in order for you and your family to benefit?

Janet…I’m sorry about your son and I don’t mind pitching in to help pay legitimate medical costs but I do have a problem just sending you a check…You said:

“my baby and I are just as welcome to that money as you or any other hard working man or woman in this country”

no you’re not…those hard working men and women are the one’s paying for it. We are paying higher taxes and losing more of our income so we can pay for more services for people who decide to have children then learn that they can’t support them…we did not participate in making your child, that was your choice…if you can’t support the child then you shouldn’t have it…I’m a paramedic and would like to get a nursing degree but even though I work full time, including mandatory overtime, I can’t afford to be a “full-time student”, because I have a family to support. How do you justify feeling that you are entitled to everyone’s tax dollars just because you decided to have sex. Quit feeling sorry for yourself because you have a sick child and find a way to support the child yourself, as long as you’re doing at least that much I don’t mind some of my hard earned money going to help pay his medical bills…as for sending a check to a child for living expenses, that’s the parents’ RESPONSIBILITY…that may be a new word for a lot of people on this board…look it up, learn it,live it…until then, don’t get mad at those of us who get so angry about having to work our butts off and pay more and more income and consumer taxes, spend more time away from our families, and not have the time, energy, or money to do the things we want in life, so people can sit at home and draw a check for having a child…we have kids too, the difference is we’re doing whatever it takes to support those kids, we’re not mooching off of everyone else.

  200. Clay Baugh on May 19th, 2009 7:21 am

to cathy…my comments, and I can’t speak for Howard but I’m sure he was talking to the people who are sitting back and receiving food stamps, medicaid, welfare checks, and whatever other free money they can mooch and have never held a job. Our frustration is toward them, not the folks who have worked and paid your taxes just like we’re doing now and paid into the system so you could have something to fall back on when you’re older, or are actually ill or injured and TRULY unable to work. It’s because of those people that even though i’ve paid into it all my adult life, i doubt if it’s going to be there for me when I retire.

  201. Clay Baugh on May 19th, 2009 10:16 am

to Janet…You said you’re happy that everyones life is a breeze and that they don’t need help so basically what you’re saying is that mom needs help, not the child. Mom needs help supporting the child that she decided to bring into this world. Mom wants a check, and to justify mom getting a check, let’s call it the “child’s check”. Wake up and get in the real world. A child should not recieve a check because a child has never worked and paid taxes or paid into the SS system, a child does not have any financial obligations, and a child does not decide how to spend the check. In other words, the child has no need for a check, mom is the one that needs a check. Quit using your child as an excuse to justify the fact that you’re too lazy to get out and do what it takes to support the child that you spread your legs and made. I doubt that any of our lives have been such a breeze that we didn’t have hard times, and to say that is offensive to those of us who have had to tough it out until we were able to make things better. The big difference is that most people have to work their own way out of it, not mooch every penny they can get out of other people who are trying to work and contribute to their own well being. If we took away all your benefits except medical care for your child, and these benefits weren’t an option for you I bet you would find a way to make it through. If you had worked as hard at making your own way as you did trying to find all this free(free for you anyway) money, you probably wouldn’t need the benefits. No, a child who has never worked and had an income should not recieve benefits because the child does not have any financial obligations. When your “child’s check” comes, what it really means is that mom gets the check and gets to use it for whatever she wants to. Yes the child might benefit, but mom is going to use it to help pay for things that are her obligation anyway, like rent, utilities, food, clothes, etc…in other words, we’re sending you a check to help support your child, in the process we’re also supporting you.I wouldn’t deny your child anything medically necessary, machines or meds, but it’s your responsibility to feed, clothe, and put a roof over the head of your child. If you have to become a part time student and get a job or put school off for a while and go to work then so be it, but you can’t sit back and expect everyone to be happy about sending you a check for a child that you and some other guy made. In addition to free medical care (it’s only free to you, we’re paying it), we’re buying your food, paying for your schooling and any other assistance you get, and you’ll never have to pay any of that back. That’s why this country is going bankrupt, because thousands of people around this country are doing the same thing. You’re getting a free, or nearly free ride at our expense, and you have the nerve to tell someone they should be ashamed of themselves for being angry about this. You’re the one that should be ashamed, you’re mooching your way through life, living off everyone else’s hard work and using your child as an excuse. I can’t get help for my children and every penny the government takes out of the check that I work for means less for my kids. How can you expect people not to get upset about that?

    mr. beard,

  206. Clay Baugh on May 21st, 2009 1:42 pm

    mr. beard,
If you read my comments, you would know that I wasn’t talking to anyone who is legitimately disabled and unable to work. I’m also not quite the ass that you think I am. I believe that people who serve our country, and their families, should get free medical care for life. Those that are injured in service to our country should receive the best medical care this country can give, at no cost to them. If those veterans can’t provide for themselves because of an injury sustained in combat, I have absolutely no problem with my tax dollars going to help them. My problem is with the people who are just looking for free money, claiming disability when they really could be working. Having babies just so they can get welfare and food stamps, and not having to do anything to pay them back. So just because I speak out against some people doesn’t mean I’m talking about you so just chill. It’s the people that I speak out against that make people who really deserve the help look bad, you should be mad at them not me.

  207. Clay Baugh on May 21st, 2009 2:08 pm

Marie…your situation is exactly why I’m so harsh…I’ll say it again, I don’t mind helping out with medical expenses but it is your responsibility to provide food, clothing, and shelter for your own children…you had them not me…the problem with alot of people on this board is that they don’t even see the lunacy in the things they say, like when you wrote:

“My children that are autistic just got there check. I am a mother of 4 and i had to stop working in order to take care of my two angels.”

First, why did your kids receive a check?? Is their rent late? What you really mean is that you found a way to have someone else (the taxpayers) support your angels so now you can quit working and sit at home. If you left a job to sit at home then you gave up taking care of your kids, now we’re doing that for you. Anyone who leaves a job to sit at home and live off money that is sent to them for nothing other than having children should lose those children.

I was declared 100% disabled from SS in 2001 but no check. I was awarded Medicare A&B and I pay for Part B. I receive a limited taxable non-disability retirement from Civil Service Retirement System due to taking an early penalized federal retirement due to base closure. That was in 1998 when I was 48, 3 years later SS declared me disabled. I receive 20% disability compensation from the VA. I hear all this talk about Vets getting $250 stimulus check & retired CSRS employees to receive $250 stimulus checks but I can not find out if I will be on that list or not. Sure I can use the money but every where I check on-line tells me nothing other than what I’ve just said. Does anyone out there know how to actually find out if you will be getting a check & when? Thanks to all of you, Phil

There are really plenty of dumb people in this world.Nobody knows another persons situation. If you’ve never had a sick child you can’t say what you would do in that situation.A mother who cares is gonna be there with her child. We don’t know anything about this lady.It seems to me like anybodt really cares.Be careful about what you say for tomorrow this could be you in this situation.Nobody has not once mentioned God.For he is the answer to all of our problems. Some of you are so worried about yourself and your tax dollars.Look what JESUS gave up for us.We say we love JESUS CHRIST whom we’ve never saw before, and scared to help our neighbor.Thats why it’s such a mess.Nobody is praying, and have faith. If we keep those two things God won’t let us go without! For the ignorant, and I can tell very uneducated BUBBA who made the very dumb comment, all Black people don’t buy rims, and all that crazy stuff you were saying. You have good of every color. You also have bad of every color.I have three sisters. We all have the same mom and dad.One sister is a nurse, been playing the piano for the church for about 20 years, goes to school still, and a mother of three daughters. One sister who is working on her third degree,a social worker, elem.teacher, mother of two teenage boys, and she’s also wrote at least 10 plays, and has worked with a fe celebrities. My youngest just received a degree in business, and has worked her way to the top with a big company here.I myself am working on a degree in business management, and working on opening up daycare.I’m also a certified manicurist. So I don’t know where you come from, but please go back!We don’t need people like you here. While you’re gone read educate yourself more. Thats part of your problem, and you need GOD!

To Clay-Do you have an autistic child? Did I know I was? No. Would it had mattered to me if I had known? No I would only been better prepared.I wouldn,t change anything if I could except people who don,t understand. Empathy doesn,t seem to be a part of who you are.

    Ha!

You would think that they world have OK’d it at the beginning instead of allowing it to go so long without saying a thing and then bringing it back up when it was too late. I don’t understand it at all. VigRX Plus

My husband and I are retired and receive SS. Two $250 deposits appeared in our checking account, the first one on 5/14 and the second one 5/21. It was deposited electronically to our checking account.

  215. maia on May 28th, 2009 9:39 pm

i was shocked, surprised, pleased to the max to find a $250 deposit in my e-bank account this morning, when i went to print out my monthly statement… couldn’t figure out what it was, till i googled and found this explanation…

fyi, i’m a 70-year-old former wife/mother of 7 who would have nothing to live on in my old age, if my ex-husband hadn’t died so i could receive his ss… he was a miserly, uncaring guy in life, but is finally supporting me in death, at least…

and the ss checks allow me to help many here on the island of tinian, who are truly needy, where i can afford to live nicely on the ss income, which is all the income i have and wouldn’t be enough for me to manage on in the states… i run a free books and donation center here that i started over 3 years ago, thanks to donated stuff from kind folks all over the world…

thank, you pres. obama!… i’m sure gladder than ever that i voted for the first time in 15 years, just to help put you in…

and thanks to whoever runs this site, for the info…

love and hugs to all, maia

Why is it that everytime I turn around there is some hateful man or women on a discussion board somewhere posting comments that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic. Stop being ignorant cowards and get a life please……………………

  218. Clayton Baugh on June 2nd, 2009 9:04 am

Linda in NC- I do have a child, and foster child, with ADHD, but no autistic child. I’m very sorry, I know that it must be difficult for you and your family, in spite of my comments, I do wish you and your child well. I’m a paramedic and deal with autistic children on occasion, and it is very tough. I could not do my job if I had no empathy and compassion, and if you read my comments you’d see that I said, more than once, that I have no problem helping with medical bills and medicines. If he is truly disabled, I have no problem helping him out when he becomes an adult and would normally begin providing for himself. Right now he is a child, and children have no debts. It is the parents’ responsibility to provide for him, just like I provide for my children. Buying food and clothes, and providing housing is something that you would have to do even if he were not autistic, they have nothing to do with his medical condition. So why do we send checks to disabled children? We wouldn’t be sending him a check if he weren’t ill, he wouldn’t be working and earning an income even if he weren’t ill, he’s a child who is your responsibility. Do you have any idea how many billions of tax dollars we’re spending every year for other parents in this same situation? Let’s call it what it really is-Welfare for the parents. I know nothing I say is going to make an impression on you, this sense of entitlement is part of who you are, you feel like we owe you because you had a son who is autistic, but don’t make me out to be the bad guy just because I’m speaking out against what you’re doing. It’s easy for you to say that I don’t understand your situation, but I do, and I still say that you are responsible for things that are not related to his medical condition. It is you that doesn’t understand, you don’t understand the meaning of the word responsibility. This free government money is available, and you’re taking advantage of it, it’s easier than actually working for a living. You’ve convinced yourself that it’s okay by calling it your child’s check. You may think that calling it your child’s check makes you look better in everyone else’s eyes but it doesn’t. People who actually have to work to support their children, and pay taxes to support yours, see you for what you are…a welfare mom.

  219. Clayton Baugh on June 2nd, 2009 9:23 am

Linda in NC…”E Lee no my son has never worked and may never work because he is autistic. Were any of your children disabled? I found your remarks insulting considering you don’t know what the situation is for some of these children and their families. Children receive SSI because they are DISABLED not because they or their parents are trying to cheat the government in some way”

He wouldn’t be working even if he weren’t autistic, so as a child, what is he losing out on financially because of his illness? Nothing! Too bad you’re insulted, when you depend on other people to pay your way through life, those people have a right to tell you when you’re doing something wrong. You’re right, you’re not cheating the government. You’re cheating the people who support the government, the tax payers, the people who actually have a sense of responsibility, the people who have enough pride in themselves to want to support themselves and work for what they get. YOU’RE INSULTED…lol

  224. Herschel N Frost on June 5th, 2009 6:32 pm

My husband is on a very minimum disability payment and we were very excited to be getting this extra money in May. Here it is June and we called the local SS office and were told that one had not been cut for us for some reason. We have had no interruptions in our benefits. I asked when I could check on the status of the check and was told *8 WEEKS*We are very close to becoming homeless and cannot even get what is supposed to come to us. WHERE DO WE TURN< SOMEBODY OUT THERE TELL US!

  225. Lea Ann on June 9th, 2009 12:03 am

It is June 8, 2009 and still not a check. I am disabled and have been getting SSI for over 10 years. I received a letter stating I should receive $250 in May, and if I had not by June 4th to call. My representative payee called on June 5th and told me they could not find out anything. I do not file a tax return because I do not work. Any reason why I haven’t received the $250 check? Anyone out there that was supposed to receive the $250 check and hasn’t yet? Anyone know who I can call to find out if it has been cut yet or will be sent at all? Thanks!

Enjoy your free money from the gubment. You lazy slackers. Remember who to vote for next time since they now own your vote. To bad these guys can’t break down and help white males that are working to support their families. Oh, wait white males are to proud to hold their hand out.

  235. sheila on July 22nd, 2009 7:54 pm

I never received my stimulus check for $250 and here it July 21, 2009. What can I do to get it? I called Social Security and they told me it was because the automatically deposited into the last checking account number they had on file for me. Since I hadn’t received a check from SS in about four weeks, due to a penalty fee imposed on me, I failed to call them and let them know I had changed bank accounts and so it was returned. Since then, I notified them of my new account information and still have not received the stimulus payment. What now???

I am a Military Widow, I draw social secirity & V.A.benefit as my husband was 100% service connected when he died, 18 years ago. I now 83 years old, and I have NOT received a dime of the $250.00 stimulous check. Todays date is August 26,2009. Who do I contact, if it will do any good. Does Social Security pay it or the IRS. I have written to Atlanta, Ga,but with NO results. Can you advise or help me in anyway at all. It would be deeply appreciated.By the way my Social Security and my VA goes directly into my bank account, so they have the bank #. No excuse.

  237. john on October 16th, 2009 5:54 pm

My wife and I can’t wait to receive our free money. There is a young lady running against the dem incumbent in our congressional district and we are sending the free obama money to her campaign fund to help defeat the dem.

  241. Kenneth Cole on November 17th, 2009 4:59 pm

Why didn’t you mention Obama took away the Seniors cost of living raise for 2010. usually this was 2 to 3% for the length of your life. He replaced it ,to try and ease the pain with the one time $250. It won’t hurt me that much but there are a lot of seniors out there trying to make it on a small ss check who was really looking forward to that raise. And don’t tell me the wasn’t a cost of living increase.
